We invite you to join us for the 3rd Annual RISE N’ SHINE 5K at the Mountain Sports Festival. This family-friendly 5K celebrates movement (RISE) and effort (SHINE) and offers a delicious pancake breakfast to runners at the finish line, all to benefit Girls on the Run of WNC!
This competitive, timed race offers a flat, scenic course along the French Broad River! It is a great course for your first 5k or to attempt a new PR. All participants will receive a race t-shirt, in addition to the pancake breakfast. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and female finishers, as well as the top 3 male and females in each age group.
KIDS age groups: 8 & under, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-18.
ADULT age groups: 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 +
PLUS - Every participant under age 18 gets a finisher prize, just for participating!
Early pickup of t-shirts and race bibs is available on Friday, May 23rd from 4:30-6:00pm on the first floor of the United Way building. (50 S. French Broad Ave., AVL, NC 28801)
Race day pickup and registration will begin at 7:15am inside the track area at Carrier Park.
The Rise N' Shine 5k will start and finish on the track at Carrier Park. Runners will complete a half-lap before exiting the track area and beginning a counter-clockwise perimeter run around Carrier Park on a combination of mulch trails and paved greenway. Runners will exit Carrier Park at the west corner and continue on a combination of sidewalk and greenway, passing the AVL Outdoor Center and running through an RV park. They will continue along the Hominy Creek Greenway until the turn-around point. Runners will return to Carrier Park and continue the remainder of their perimeter park loop. They will enter the back of the track area and complete another half-lap to the finish.
After the event, you’ll be able to view your event results under "Event Results" in the GotR 5K dropdown menu.
The Smoky Park Hwy and Weaverville locations of IHOP will be providing the delicious pancakes for our finish line breakfast!

The UNCA Bulldogs compete in a variety of collegiate sports and offer exciting entertainment for the Asheville community. The UNCA Athletic Department is providing a pair of sporting event tickets to ALL kids who participate in the Rise N' Shine 5k!
